He served as an assistant to Jesualdo Ferreira, André Villas-Boas, Vtor Pereira and Paulo Fonseca while employed at the club. In 2014, he moved to Liverpool where he worked as Jürgen Klopp’s first team coach and assistant manager to Brendan Rodgers.

Lijnders accepted a managerial position at NEC in the Dutch Eerste Divisie on 2 January 2018. He agreed a one-and-a-half-year contract. After NEC lost in the Eredivisie play-off, Lijnders was sacked on 17 May 2018.

While his salary at Liverpool is unknown, his net worth is estimated at $1-3 million, having published a book titled Intensity about Liverpool’s style and his time at the club.
