A career in management: When the former Rangers great took the job in 2004, McCoist’s first coaching position was as a member of Walter Smith’s Scotland national team. Less than three years later, when an assistant management position opened up at Ibrox, McCoist linked up with Smith.

McCoist revealed that Smith gave him full control of the team during their cup run following the Scottish Cup Final in 2008.

McCoist resigned midway through the 2014–15 campaign and was put on gardening leave shortly afterwards. The team agreed to terminate his contract nine months later.
