Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was born on 31 October 1875. Sardar Patel was a freedom fighter and the first Minister of Home Affairs and Independent Deputy Prime Minister of India.

He was involved in the liberation struggle, so he is also known as the Iron Man of India. Sardar Patel was born into a farmer’s family on 31 October 1875 in Nadiad, Gujarat.

His father’s name was Jhaverbhai and his mother’s name was Ladba Devi. Sardar Patel was the youngest and fourth of his three siblings.

The main method of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s education was self-study. He studied law in London and later came to India and started law in Ahmedabad.

Kheda Satyagraha

Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, he joined the Indian liberation movement. The first major contribution to the Sardar Patel liberation movement came in the form of Kheda’s struggle.

While the Kheda area is facing a drought and farmers there want to avoid paying taxes to the British government. When the British government rejected the proposal, Sardar Patel, Mahatma Gandhi, and others paid the farmers and urged them not to pay taxes. Eventually the British government had to bow down and give the farmers tax relief.
