While engineers dominate the toppers list in UPSC civil services results, Dr Apala Mishra has secured 9th rank with a degree in dental surgery.

Hailing from Delhi, Mishra not only cleared the exam but also secured the highest marks (215) in the personality test stage. Let us tell you, UPSC interview is of 275 marks.

The topper credits his success to self-study. Let me tell you, before this she had failed in UPSC Prelims exam twice, but she did not lose courage and showed her hard work by passing the UPSC exam.

She told a news website, “I was not well prepared in my first two attempts and hence, could not clear the prelims, but this time I worked hard.

I believe that if one is hard working and dedicated, it is possible to achieve anything.

Talking about her preparation, Mishra said that she used to study for around 7 to 8 hours every day and use a timer to monitor the time spent on each subject.

During my preparation, I used basic books, as well as Google and Youtube to study online.

Apala chose Anthropology as his optional subject and took the help of coaching for GS and optional subject.

To prepare for personality test, he took admission in Unacademy for mock interview guidance.

In the family of military personnel, Apala is the first member to enter the administrative services.

His father is a retired colonel from the army and his mother is a professor at Delhi University. His brother is serving in the Indian Army in the rank of Major.

Apala said, “My background acted as a source of inspiration for me. I looked closely at the healthcare system of my country and realized that it needed more attention.

This thought inspired me to make a career in civil services to make more impact in the society, interestingly, Mishra was not able to clear the preliminary stage of the exam in his first two attempts.

“Exams like UPSC CSE can be overwhelming for anyone and it is very important for the candidates to take care of themselves.

It is important to make yourself a priority while pursuing your goals.
