Alison Botha was born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa on September 22, 1967. She is 56 years old as of 2023. When she was ten, her parents separated and she moved in with her mother and older brother Neale. In 1985, she was Head Girl at Collegiate Girls’ High School in Port Elizabeth. She spent several years after graduating high school traveling and working in several countries, including the United States, England, and Israel. Botha subsequently returned to South Africa and enrolled in the Business Administration program at Wilmington University. She also attended Swaziland’s Waterford Kamhlaba United World College of Southern Africa (UWCSA), Boston University in the United States and the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s African Studies Program.

When that didn’t work, they stabbed her 37 times in the stomach and 17 times in the neck, destroying her trachea and severing most of her nerves. They then abandoned her in a clearing.
